The Sage Dental Care team is pleased to announce that one of our skilled dentists, Terry Batliner, DDS, has received the DentaQuest Health Equity Hero Award. Congratulations, Dr. Batliner! Thank you, so much for all that you do for patients in and out of our Boulder dental office. We are so grateful to have a dentist on our team who is dedicated to making dental health care services accessible to every patient regardless of race, religion, location, or fiscal status. Your hard work has never gone unnoticed by your peers and patients at Sage Dental Care, and we’re so proud you’ve received this award for your years of dedication.
What is the Award?
Dr. Batliner has received this award in only the fourth year of the program. He is one of five dentists nationwide to be given this honor. The goal of the DentaQuest Health Equity Hero Award is to recognize those dentists and dental researchers who are contributing significantly to addressing directly and indirectly inequities in the availability of dental care for underserved communities. Dr. Batliner will be honored at a special meeting by his peers in the dental field, and he will receive a plaque and a $1,000 check that will be donated to a nonprofit to further the work that Dr. Batliner is passionate about.
Why Did Dr. Batliner Win?
If you’re already one of Dr. Batliner’s patients, you can probably guess why he was honored with this prestigious award. The work Dr. Batliner does on a daily basis to offer every patient he treats the exceptional level of dental care they deserve is only one aspect of his career in the dental field. Dr. Batliner is also committed to helping underserved populations receive the dental they may not have access to as easily as some of those patients who see us twice a year at Sage Dental Care. As a citizen of the Cherokee nation, Dr. Batliner has devoted much of his time to helping bring oral health care education and treatment to native communities. For the first eight years of his career, he worked with the Indian Health service to provided dental care for American Indians and Alaska Natives. For ten years between 2007 and 2017, Dr. Batliner was the associate director of the Center for Native Oral Health Research (CNOHR) at the University of Colorado, Anschutz Medical Campus working to improve access to oral health care for people who live on reservations. He has also held leadership positions at the Harvard Pilgrim Healthcare Institute, the Veteran Administration (VA), and Delta Dental of Colorado. Additionally, he served as a clinical instructor with the Colorado School of Public Health.
