Tzu Chi Free Clinic in Australia has been focusing on dental treatment for 18 years and can also provide denture services immediately. This time, volunteers drove nearly 400 kilometers to bring services to those in need.
Three days later, he returned for a follow-up visit and successfully put on his dentures. This was the moment Benjamin had dreamed of for 40 years. Tears of happiness flowed instantly.
Resident Benjamin: “(Happy), I haven’t chewed or swallowed for a long time. I really respect you for helping me with everything.”
The three dental restoration technicians worked as a team from taking impressions, making, installing, adjusting, to inlaying in the patient’s mouth.
Tzu Chi Medical Association doctor Lin Hailing: “They sacrificed their rest time at night and used this time to speed up the process for these patients, so that patients can get dentures in a very short time.”
Brisbane Tzu Chi volunteers held a free clinic in Tara Town. Tzu Chi Youth took the initiative to take charge of the reception, waiting, and health examination areas.
Tzu Chi Youth Lee Yi-han: “This time I took on the role of receptionist, which was very new to me. I like this challenge, it’s all unknown, uncertain, I just want to understand it.”
Tzu Chi Youth Yu Jiamin: “This time I was in the waiting area, so I think we include a lot of things, such as child care, the children’s part, and the love shower area, interacting with local residents.”
In Tara, a town nearly 400 kilometers away from Brisbane, the mobile phone signal is often disconnected. The optoelectronics professional Tzu Chi volunteers tried every means to improve and strengthen the consultation process.
Tzu Chi volunteer Chan Chih-Sheng: “I have the opportunity to use the new Space X low-orbit satellite equipment, so I decided to buy it and try it out to see if there will be significant improvements in the entire process.”
The free clinic team took the initiative to walk into the door of people who lived in remote areas and could not receive free clinic information. Jie Simin’s family of five felt very warm to receive care.
Resident Jie Simin: “There is no public transportation or public medical care here, and the cost of seeing a dentist is also quite expensive. If it is not necessary, I would not want to go to the dentist (for many reasons), so your coming to see a dentist is really a great help.”
The residents who received assistance also wanted to be a noble person to others. Catherine especially brought everyone’s love.
Resident Catherine: “We held a charity sale in the community, setting up a stall in front of the only local food supermarket to sell our baked goods, and the results were great.”
The three-day free clinic, volunteers, and medical teams worked together to serve 675 patients. This medical appointment will continue.
