Chrissy Teigen has never been shy about explaining how she maintains her flawless looks. The Sports Illustrated model isn’t shy about revealing when she’s had plastic surgery or tried a new beauty secret. To be honest, it doesn’t seem like Teigen has tried any crazy plastic surgeries or weird skincare trends — like Kim Kardashian’s vampire facial or Demi Moore’s leech detox regimen. For someone who constantly creates memorable pop culture moments, it’s surprising that her daily routine is so mundane.
“I really like to do something nice and simple,” Teigen told Refinery29 in 2016 about her beauty regimen. The most ridiculous thing she could think of was getting dental veneers. “I shaved my teeth off and made them into little pencil points so I could make nice teeth, which is kind of weird to think about,” she said of the process.
The two side-by-side photos below compare Teigen’s before and after dental veneers. While both sets of teeth sported a similar white sheen, her veneers were noticeably longer than her natural teeth — a habit the TV personality attributes to a bad habit for her shorter pearly whites. “I’m a notorious teeth grinder, so all my front teeth are a few millimeters shorter,” she confessed.
While opting for veneers may have improved the look and function of Chrissy Teigen’s teeth, it also made her candy-eating experience a lot more difficult. In January 2021, Teigen announced on X that she had just lost a tooth in the most unexpected way. She explained her dental dilemma in a video, describing how her crown fell off while she was biting into a fruit roll-up. When anxious fans asked her if it was the crown or the entire veneer that fell off, she clarified, “It was the crown that fell off, but I love it just as much as my real tooth.”
She later confirmed on The Ellen DeGeneres Show that she had actually lost four temporary crowns in total. In a February 2021 interview with Ellen DeGeneres, Teigen said she hasn’t had a new crown since the accident and can’t eat solid food. She laughed and said “soup and mashed potatoes” were the basis of her temporary diet.
Interestingly, Teigen has had more than one dental problem. After appearing on an episode of Family Feud with husband John Legend, facing off against the cast of Vanderpump Rules, Teigen shared an exclusive moment from the filming on Instagram. “I can’t say if we won or lost this Family Feud, but we definitely brought a bottle and I definitely knocked a tooth out and it’s definitely a record,” she wrote. Knocking a tooth out is a next level of enthusiasm on the game show, and even Andy Cohen couldn’t help but comment. “You knocking a tooth out is so iconic,” he wrote.
