What started as a routine cleaning for an elderly man with limited mobility turned into a Colorado dentist publicly denouncing an insurance company for its “egregious” refusal to pay for his surgery.
Dr. Taylor Ross of Pueblo Westside Community Dental and Implant Clinic has been working in the community for eight years and has been in the profession for more than three decades.
An 83-year-old patient came to Ross for a teeth cleaning, and Ross and his staff realized that the elderly man had difficulty cleaning his teeth properly.
“So we took pictures of his teeth and cleaned them. Pretty routine, right? The patient’s dental insurance company, Humana, promised to cover the full cost as part of the policy,” Ross told The Chief.
So when Humana denied the claim, citing “no evidence,” Ross decided to fight back. He posted the “no evidence” photos on a digital billboard outside his office on U.S. 50, alongside the name of former Humana CEO Bruce Broussard and his 2023 income of $16.3 million.
