The prefectural police cybersecurity headquarters, established this month, held a cybersecurity seminar for dentists and others in Numazu City. At the request of the city dental association, 50 people learned about the current status of cybercrime and countermeasures.
The seminar introduced the increasing number of victims of “phishing scams” (luring people to fake websites to steal personal information) and ransomware “ransomware” nationwide. A video of the incident in which 40 computers at a hospital in Tokushima Prefecture were infected with ransomware was played, and members of the task force urged people to “take your device offline, disconnect it from the network, and report it to the police if you become a victim.”
“We are now in an era where security measures require investment. I hope that companies will have a sense of urgency and make upfront investments to protect their corporate value.” Dentists who participated in the event said that the sense of crisis is increasing, “I feel that cyber threats are approaching, and I want to understand the situation immediately and take measures.”
