As the shortage of dental technicians who make products such as dentures has become an issue, an organization composed of dentists and other personnel in the prefecture has requested the prefecture to provide the necessary support to ensure the supply of dental technicians.
There is a severe shortage of dental technicians who make dentures and crowns, and the number of job seekers is also declining. The prefecture’s only vocational school that trains dental technicians, located in Shimonoseki City, is expected to close within two years.
Kazuyuki Suemasu, chairman of the dental department of the Prefectural Insurance Doctors Association, and others came to the prefectural government and handed a letter of request to Governor Muraoka to the prefectural leaders.
The request asks for recognition of the harsh realities of dental technicians, such as long working hours and low wages, which are the causes of the shortage of workers, and for the necessary support to enable the training of dental technicians to continue in the prefecture.
The prefectural government official who accepted the request responded that the content will be reviewed and shared in the prefecture.
“Dental technicians are indispensable personnel for dental treatment. In order to provide dental treatment to residents in the prefecture, it is very important to establish a dental technician training school in the prefecture. I hope everyone can understand the current situation of dental treatment.”
