In order to improve the quality of dental treatment, the Tingzhou Campus of the Tri-Service General Hospital has introduced novel Erbium Chromium laser equipment to treat soft and hard tissues such as periodontal disease and tooth decay. It uses light energy to convert into water wave energy. In addition to having the ability to remove dental calculus, it also has the effects of sterilization, stimulating tissue activation, shortening recovery and reducing swelling. It also avoids damage to surrounding tissues caused by excessive concentration and penetration of heat energy, effectively improving the safety of treatment.
In recent years, erbium chromium laser has become mainstream in hard tissue treatment such as tooth decay and dental bone surgery, as well as soft tissue treatment such as tooth pulp trimming, gum plastic surgery, root canal treatment, periodontal disease, and dental implant surgery. Not only is the effect excellent, but its gentle and quiet treatment process can also reduce patients’ fear and discomfort of dental visits. The recent introduction of erbium chromium laser equipment in the Tingzhou Campus of Sanzhong not only keeps pace with the times, but also demonstrates their determination to protect the health of the Chinese people.
Lieutenant Colonel Yu, Director of the Department of Family Dentistry and Oral Diagnosis of the Third General Hospital, said that the Erbium Chromium laser is a higher energy laser among dental lasers. When set to a low power output, it penetrates deep into the periodontal pocket and can vaporize and peel off inflamed tissue and dental calculus. It has the ability to remove inflamed tissue and cut teeth and alveolar bones. For example, common periodontal disease is caused by bacteria adhering to the root surface, causing soft tissue inflammation and bone destruction. When the tooth structure is in good condition, periodontal disease can be effectively treated through surface cleaning.
Dr. Yu further stated that the Erbium Chromium laser is also called water laser. Its biggest feature is that the laser excites and sprays water and air at the same time, so that the teeth and periodontal can be continuously controlled at a low temperature, which can avoid damage caused by concentrated heat energy, thereby improving the safety of the treatment. In addition, this technology uses low output power to volatilize the decayed tooth, which has the advantages of reducing unnecessary tooth grinding, reducing the soreness after filling cavities, increasing the combination of composite resin and enamel, making cavity fillings more durable, and extending the service life.
