Chinese businessman Mu Yijie is over 70 years old. More than ten years ago, he had dental implant surgery due to severe periodontal disease. He was full of expectations at the time. However, as time went by, dental implants became his endless troubles, and sometimes he could not sleep all night. Not only did his gums become inflamed repeatedly, but he also had to remove some implants, and the related expenses were huge. He believes that his initial decision to have dental implants was a failure, partly because of himself, but also because the dentist did not clearly explain the brand of dental implant materials, which has made it difficult for him to find appropriate support and help to relieve his tooth pain.
As the saying goes, “Toothache is not a disease, but it can kill people”, which means that the pain is unbearable. Patients all hope to be cured, otherwise the quality of life may be affected in the long run. Mu Yijie talked about why he chose dental implants more than ten years ago. He said that at that time, dental implant surgery was already very mature, and the implanted teeth were no different from normal teeth, becoming the choice of many people of his age. After suffering from periodontal disease for a long time, he was full of expectations for dental implant surgery. As for why he did not choose removable dentures, Mu Yijie said that the dentist he was familiar with was a well-known implant dentist in the industry, with patents, reliable technology, and many successful cases. At that time, this dentist would spend $5,000 to $6,000 to implant one tooth; if a full-mouth implant was done, it would cost at least $200,000.
Under the dentist’s advice, Mu Yijie removed the four upper teeth on the right side that were more severely loose, and one lower tooth on the right side, and performed dental implant surgery. From the beginning of the surgery to the completion of the dental implant, the whole process took nearly four months. In the first few years after the dental implant, everything was fine and he was able to eat normally. But as time went on, problems began to appear; the implanted tooth on the lower right side would get stuck when eating, and the gap between it and other teeth became larger and larger. Later, he suddenly felt a toothache, and the implant was a little shaky, and then it continued to become inflamed, making him feel very uncomfortable.
Mu Yijie found the dentist who implanted his teeth for him, and he concluded that he had to extract them. If he wanted to implant the teeth again, he would have to fill the bone powder again and do the dental implant surgery again. Mu Yijie said that after this incident, he began to doubt the dental implant surgery that he had fully trusted before.
Mu Yijie said that two years ago, his upper right implant also had problems. One of the crowns and the implant fell off at the same time, and the other three crowns also fell off, leaving only two implants. Half a year ago, the periodontal disease on the left side recurred. Under the advice of the previous cooperating dentist, the four upper teeth on the left side and the lower tooth were reimplanted. Although it felt good in the first few years, one day he suddenly felt severe swelling on the left side of his face, but there was no pain. After consulting several dental specialists, he confirmed that it was related to the four upper left implants. So he made up his mind and asked the dentist to remove all four implants.
Mu Yijie said that he is now discussing with another dentist he trusts how to better remedy the current condition of his teeth. He believes that judging from the current condition of his teeth, the decision to have dental implants made more than ten years ago was a failure. The main reason for the failure was that he did not pay attention to oral hygiene. The dentist reminded him to quit smoking, but he did not follow the advice.
Mu Yijie also believes that there was a problem with the dentist who did the dental implants at the time. He never provided him with the brand and model of the implants in his dental implants. As a result, when he went to see other dentists for treatment, the dentist said that he did not know the implant model and could not use the appropriate tools to remove the implants, let alone do the dental implant surgery again. He said that he suspected that the implant dentist he trusted was unwilling to disclose the brand and model of the implants because they were not universal implants at all, so he doubted the price of the implants he used.
