A fatal medical dispute involving dental surgery occurred in Zhejiang! A father went to a dental clinic for surgery earlier. He had 23 teeth extracted at once and 12 dentures implanted. However, he suffered from pain after the surgery and died of cardiac arrest 2 weeks later. The family suspected that the sudden death was related to the dental surgery and took legal action to hold the hospital accountable and recover losses. The Yongkang Municipal Health Bureau has intervened and is investigating the cause of death.
It is understood that a man surnamed Huang went to a dental hospital in Yongkang City for dental surgery and signed a consent form for the surgery in advance. Doctor Yuan extracted 23 teeth for Huang in one day and then implanted 12 teeth. Huang felt very painful after the operation. Two weeks later, on August 28 this year, he suffered a cardiac arrest. His family was extremely sad and suspected that Huang’s death was related to the dental operation. They commissioned a lawyer to file a lawsuit against the hospital. Huang and his daughter even made the incident public online to seek justice for their father.
The incident attracted follow-up by local media, reporting that the cost of dental implant surgery was RMB 1,500 (approximately HKD 1,600) per tooth. At the same time, when inquiring about the hospital involved, the staff replied, “For front teeth, you can extract and implant immediately. For back teeth, you have to wait for 3 or 4 months, and then implant after recovery after extraction.” However, according to Huang’s consent form for surgery, his multiple molars were implanted on the day of surgery, which was inconsistent with the hospital’s suggestion. When asked about Huang’s case, the staff responded that they “did not understand the situation”. The hospital no longer responded to the incident and said that it had been handed over to lawyers for follow-up.
It is reported that the hospital involved is a non-governmental for-profit medical institution, and its scope of diagnosis includes dental implants. The announcement data shows that the doctor surnamed Yuan who was responsible for Huang’s dental implant surgery has 5 years of experience in the industry and is good at root canal treatment and wisdom tooth extraction. He still works in the dental hospital afterwards.
