In order to improve the elderly-friendly health care services in Checheng Township and surrounding areas, the Pingtung County Government invested 130 million yuan to rebuild the Checheng Township Health Center. In addition to continuing the original medical clinic and public health services, it also established the first community mental health center in Pingnan and added a dental clinic. The new facilities not only implement medical equality, but also provide more comprehensive care services for the villagers. In this regard, local companies also strongly support it. The Chuanqi Construction Team and Qifa Construction Co., Ltd. generously donated, including a mobile medical vehicle with a market value of one million and four sets of dental equipment and consumables worth one million.
Pingtung County Mayor Zhou Chunmi said that in addition to continuing the medical clinic and public health services, the new Checheng Health Center has also added a senior health club, a mental health center, a day care center, and a long-term care center to make it easier for people to get mental health support. It is also the only health center in the township with a dental clinic. It not only supplements the construction of the long-term care safety net and the social safety net, but also hopes to become an important demonstration point for the reconstruction of health centers in remote areas.
Zhou Chunmi pointed out that the Checheng Health Center currently has a dental clinic open two days a week, for a total of four sessions, and thanked the Dental Association for its full cooperation. At the same time, Chuanqi Construction Team and Qifa Construction Co., Ltd. donated “dental medical equipment” and “mobile medical vehicles” so that fellow villagers and surrounding residents can receive dental care nearby. In the future, the county government will continue to improve relevant medical equipment to upgrade services.
The reconstruction of Checheng Health Center began when Pan Meng’an, Secretary-General of the Presidential Office, served as the mayor of Pingtung County. Pan Meng’an said that the idea of rebuilding the health center was originally proposed mainly because there was a shortage of vaccination space and facilities during the epidemic, which could not meet the needs of local elders. There are many elders in the Checheng area, and the medical credibility and quality of the community are crucial, so the rural health center plays an important role. Pan Meng’an thanked Zhou Chunmi, who was a legislator at the time, for his efforts and the support of the parliament to ensure the smooth implementation of the plan.
The Pingtung County Government Health Bureau stated that in order to improve the accessibility of long-term care services, the second floor of the health center has a “Checheng Care Branch” and a “Fu’an Day Care Center”. Not only can the villagers get care consultation and assistance in real time, but the day care center adopts a mixed operation mode for the disabled and the physically handicapped, and will introduce a variety of health promotion courses such as music, building blocks, and gardening, so that the disabled have the opportunity to realize themselves again.
The Department of Health pointed out that health centers are responsible for protecting local health and are also the grassroots health care units that are closest to the community and the public. Currently, health centers in Zhutian Township, Neipu Township, Xinyuan Township and other places will be completed one after another, and the health center in Wandan Township is under planning and design. In the future, it will actively promote health and medical equality in remote areas and improve the local elderly-friendly medical and care environment.
