Align Technology has announced the availability of enhanced restorative capabilities for its next-generation iTero Lumina™ intraoral scanner and the new iTero Lumina™ Pro dental imaging system, designed to optimize diagnostic, restorative, and multidisciplinary ortho-restorative workflows. The innovations come equipped with iTero Multi-Direct Capture™ technology and, in the case of the iTero Lumina™ Pro, Near Infra-Red Imaging (NIRI) technology.
These updated systems build on Align’s 20+ years of expertise in restorative dentistry, offering solutions that deliver faster, more accurate scans. The iTero Lumina™ intraoral scanner captures a larger field of view and scans 2x faster than its predecessors, making it ideal for challenging restorative cases such as dentures, edentulous spaces, and palates. It facilitates the capture of everything from single-unit crowns to full-arch implants in a single scan, ensuring first-time restoration fits.
The iTero Lumina™ solutions also include five capabilities in one device—such as 3D photorealistic models, an HD intraoral camera, interproximal caries detection with NIRI, and scans for Invisalign® case submissions—all in a single, efficient scan. This enhanced versatility reduces practice footprint, minimizes maintenance, and allows for full automation of daily tasks, from patient scanning to lab collaboration.
As a result, dental practices can expect improved workflow efficiency, superior clinical outcomes, and a more elevated patient experience. The iTero Lumina™ scanner’s accuracy has been shown to outperform competitors in full-arch accuracy, making it an ideal tool for prosthetic planning and restoring complex dental cases.
“iTero Lumina™ solutions enable predictable and repeatable first-time restoration fits,” said Karim Boussebaa, Align Technology EVP. “These advancements empower dental professionals to deliver exceptional results with ease.”
The new iTero Lumina™ scanner software will be available to current users as a free update, starting in April 2025. The iTero Lumina™ Pro system is available in select markets, with plans for broader availability throughout the year.
With its superior scanning abilities, intuitive design, and advanced imaging features, the iTero Lumina™ solutions are set to revolutionize restorative dentistry, making patient care more efficient and improving the precision of dental work.
