Access to dental care in northwest Syria remains a significant challenge due to the ongoing conflict and limited resources. With over 4 million people in need of health assistance, including dental care, many individuals continue to face barriers to essential services. Despite these difficulties, the Syrian American Medical Society (SAMS) remains one of the few organizations providing consistent dental services in the region, operating 17 clinics.
In 2024, SAMS delivered approximately 71,990 dental treatments across its clinics. The breakdown of services provided included 46% emergency procedures, 29% endodontic treatments, 13% restorative procedures, 8% temporary treatments, and 4% periodontal care. The majority of beneficiaries were adults aged 24 to 64, with females representing 55% of the total recipients.
Monthly trends indicated fluctuating service provision, with peaks observed during mid-year, demonstrating the adaptability of SAMS in responding to varying levels of demand and resource constraints throughout the year. Despite ongoing challenges, SAMS continues to offer critical dental services to the affected population in northwest Syria.
