Wiltshire Council has approved plans to transform a former police station in Malmesbury into a dental practice. The building, located on Burton Hill, has been vacant since 2020 when it ceased to function as a police station.
The new dental practice will be situated directly north of the Malmesbury Primary Care Centre, which already houses an NHS dental surgery. The proposed dental practice will operate Monday through Friday, from 8:30 AM to 5:30 PM, and will employ six full-time staff members.
In a statement regarding the approval, Wiltshire Council noted that the exterior of the building would remain unchanged, as it is already deemed suitable for the new purpose. Additionally, the current access and parking arrangements are adequate for the dental practice, with no changes required.
The plans for the interior renovations include the creation of three consulting rooms, with the report from the case officer indicating that the conversion would not hinder the possibility of the site being repurposed for residential use in the future. The building’s change from one non-residential use to another is considered acceptable.
The council has officially informed Mr. Hamish Bury, the applicant, of the approval, and the project is expected to move forward soon.
