United Concordia Dental has made a generous $100,000 donation to support the operations of the Children’s Dental Clinic at the William D. Kelley School in North Philadelphia. The clinic, which opened in 2023, is operated by Temple University’s Maurice H. Kornberg School of Dentistry and provides dental care to children in the community, regardless of their insurance status.
The check presentation took place on February 10, 2025, with representatives from Temple University, the School District of Philadelphia, and United Concordia Dental. Notable attendees included Temple University Chancellor Richard Englert, Dean of the Kornberg School of Dentistry Amid Ismail, and Chief Dental Officer at United Concordia Dental Roosevelt Allen, along with several other community leaders.
This donation reaffirms United Concordia’s commitment to improving oral health in North Philadelphia. “We are incredibly grateful for the continued support of United Concordia Dental,” said Dean Amid Ismail. “The Children’s Dental Clinic has become a vital resource for children and families, and this gift will help us continue to provide critical dental care.”
The clinic offers a full range of services, including exams, cleanings, and preventive treatments. It serves children up to age 16, including those with special healthcare needs. Additionally, the clinic features four fully equipped dental stations, with one designed specifically for children with autism and other disabilities. Services are available to all children in the community, irrespective of their insurance coverage.
Roosevelt Allen, United Concordia’s Chief Dental Officer, highlighted the long-term benefits of supporting children’s oral health. “Untreated dental issues can lead to missed school, difficulty concentrating, and long-term health problems. We’re excited to continue partnering with Temple University and the School District of Philadelphia to expand access to quality dental care for underserved children.”
The clinic has already become an invaluable resource for the community, eliminating a significant barrier to care for families and ensuring that children can focus on their education without the added stress of unmet health needs.
Looking ahead, Temple’s Kornberg School of Dentistry hopes to expand its efforts by potentially opening additional dental clinics to further serve the Philadelphia community. Dean Ismail emphasized that this partnership aligns perfectly with Temple University’s mission to provide service, particularly to underserved populations.
This donation coincides with National Children’s Dental Health Month, highlighting the importance of accessible, high-quality dental care for children in underserved communities.
