Several organizations in eastern Iowa are coming together to offer free dental care to children in need. The partnership, led by Johnson County Public Health through its I-Smile Program, is teaming up with Kimball and Beecher Family Dentistry to provide essential dental services on February 21 for children aged one through 13.
The services offered include routine screenings such as:
- Oral exams
- Preventive care (cleaning, fluoride, and sealants)
- Restorative care (fillings)
- X-rays
Becky Hackett-Leas, the Oral Health Coordinator for Johnson County Public Health, highlighted the growing need for accessible dental care in the region. “The struggles families face in finding a dentist are prevalent across the state, and about 18% of the children seen by I-Smile statewide have some form of tooth decay,” said Hackett-Leas. “So, the need for these services is critical.”
To schedule an appointment, parents can contact Kimball and Beecher Family Dentistry at 319-337-2114. Pre-registration is required to participate in the free screenings, which will take place between 8 a.m. and 12:30 p.m. The dental office is located on the 1000 block of William Street near the Memory Gardens Cemetery.
