SIFAX Group has once again demonstrated its commitment to enhancing community well-being and improving healthcare access by sponsoring the University of Ibadan Association of Dental Students (UADS) 2024 Mega Outreach. The event, which took place on Saturday, 14 December 2024, in the Sabo community of Mokola, Ibadan, aimed to provide vital oral health services to an underserved population while raising awareness about the importance of dental hygiene.
A Commitment to Healthcare Accessibility
As the first of two planned initiatives for 2024, the outreach was made possible through SIFAX Group’s generous sponsorship, which covered all essential logistics for the event. This included securing the venue, procuring medical supplies, providing personal protective equipment, and facilitating transportation to ensure the initiative ran smoothly.
The event had a profound impact on the local community, offering free dental checkups, scaling, polishing, and oral hygiene education to no fewer than 165 residents. Final-year dental students, along with two medical doctors, delivered the services, demonstrating both their commitment to community service and their growing clinical expertise.
A Direct Impact on the Community
The outreach also resulted in 30 individuals being referred for professional dental care, including additional scaling and polishing. Every participant was given a toothbrush and toothpaste, reinforcing the event’s long-term objective of equipping residents with the tools and knowledge necessary to maintain healthy oral habits.
Community leaders expressed their deep gratitude to SIFAX Group, acknowledging the vital role the sponsorship played in making the event a reality. The outreach was not only seen as a moment of care but also as a significant investment in the future health of the community.
“We are deeply grateful to SIFAX Group for their invaluable support. Their sponsorship allowed UADS CODEH to reach out to the Sabo community, offering free medical tests and dental consultations that brought much-needed oral health services directly to the people,” said Mr. Kehinde Omotoso, a representative from the UADS Executive Committee on Dental Education and Health (CODEH).
Enhancing Skills and Expanding Reach
The dental students involved in the initiative also expressed their appreciation for the opportunity to contribute to the community while honing their clinical skills. Their involvement in such outreaches not only broadens their practical experience but also strengthens their sense of social responsibility.
The UADS CODEH reaffirmed their commitment to continuing similar outreach efforts, ensuring that oral health education and care extend far beyond the university setting. They emphasized that such partnerships are essential for making a tangible difference in underserved areas.
“With the continued support of partners like SIFAX Group, we can continue to promote quality oral health practices and extend our services beyond the dental center,” Mr. Omotoso added.
A Partnership for Social Change
The collaboration between SIFAX Group and UADS serves as a powerful example of how public-private partnerships can foster meaningful social change. By working together, they have made significant strides in improving healthcare access, fostering a healthier, more informed community. Through continued efforts like this, SIFAX Group and UADS are helping to create a lasting impact, improving both individual and community well-being.
