Walfinch, a home care service led by Shilpi Verma, Managing Director and Registered Manager, has introduced unique wellness initiatives to support their clients’ overall health. Responding to client requests, Verma, a 12-year yoga practitioner, worked with her teacher to offer free weekly online yoga classes tailored for clients, their families, and caregivers.
“Many of our clients have mobility challenges, so we offer seated yoga focused on breathing, stretching, and relaxation,” explains Verma. “The breathing techniques have really helped reduce anxiety and promote relaxation.” US-based studies have shown that chair yoga can significantly reduce anxiety, improve mobility, and enhance balance, among other benefits. One family member shared, “Mum looks forward to this every week.” Today, 20% of Walfinch’s clients participate in the sessions, with family members and pregnant caregivers joining in too. One 58-year-old client, cared for by her 80-year-old mother, shared that yoga has provided relief for her full-time caregiver, even when she occasionally joins the session.
In addition to yoga, Walfinch has partnered with Dr. Lovlina Bindra, a local mobile dentist, to offer at-home oral health assessments and dental services. This collaboration allows clients to receive routine dental care, including fillings, without leaving their homes. More complex procedures are referred to Dr. Bindra’s clinic or can be carried out on the NHS or privately. The provision of yoga and mobile dental care is fully funded by Walfinch Harrow and Brent, setting them apart from other home care providers in the area. Verma notes, “Word is getting around, and it’s helping attract more clients. It’s a service that pays for itself.”
Verma, who recently won the Home Care Business Woman of the Year Award at the Social Care Awards, is also exploring additional services. She plans to partner with local qualified hairdressers and podiatrists to broaden the care options for her clients. “Our carers already spend at least an hour with each client, allowing us to offer pampering services like face packs and nail polish. Expanding our offerings will further enhance our clients’ well-being.”
By focusing on holistic care that promotes both health and happiness, Walfinch has set a new standard in home care, ensuring that their clients not only receive essential services but also enjoy a higher quality of life.
