The 8th Lower Assam Dental Meet was successfully held at the scenic Musa Jungle Retreat within Manas National Park. Organized by the Lower Assam Branch of the Indian Dental Association (IDA), the event featured a comprehensive day-long agenda aimed at advancing the field of dentistry.
The inaugural ceremony was marked by Dr. Jayanta Das, Honorary President of IDA Lower Assam, who raised the ceremonial flag and officially opened the proceedings. He was accompanied by esteemed guests and dignitaries, and the occasion also saw the recognition of senior medical professionals.
A major highlight of the meet was the series of scientific sessions designed to enrich the knowledge of dental practitioners. Notable experts shared insights into specialized topics. Dr. Ashish Kumar Singh from Uttar Pradesh addressed the scope of facial aesthetics in dentistry, while Dr. Abhishek Jairaj from Kerala presented strategies for optimizing private dental practices using advanced materials like Zirconia and Emax. Dr. Subhash Debnath, Professor and Head of Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery, officially launched the scientific sessions.
In addition, lectures focusing on the vital issue of tobacco cessation in dental practice were given by Dr. Ashim Choudhury and Dr. Atindra Das.
The event also had the honor of hosting distinguished guests, including Dr. Heman Das, a retired professor at Regional Dental College, Guwahati, who served as the chief guest. Special invitees included Dr. Manjula Das, Principal-in-Charge of GDC Silchar, and Dr. Jogeswar Barman, Professor and Head of Prosthodontics at RDC Guwahati.
A special moment of the meet was the presentation of the Lifetime Achievement Award to Dr. Rubi Kataki, Dean of the Faculty of Dentistry at SSUHS and President of the Assam State Dental Council, for her exemplary contribution to dentistry and her service to the people of Assam.
Dr. Irfan Habib was honored with the President’s Special Appreciation Award, while Dr. Chinmoy Hazarika received the Young Achiever’s Award. The annual souvenir, “ORA-FAM,” was unveiled by Dr. Sanjib Khataniar, Professor and Head of Oral Medicine and Radiology at RDC Guwahati.
As the event concluded, all participants were felicitated, and the gathering was treated to a cultural performance. The event was expertly anchored by Dr. Parinita Barman, with logistical coordination provided by Dr. Rupam Choudhury, Honorary Secretary of IDA Lower Assam.
Dr. Nayan Sarma, President, and Dr. Amir Hussain, Secretary of the organizing committee, expressed their gratitude to the attendees and dignitaries for their invaluable contributions.
