Lakeshore College is set to expand its dental clinic, with construction progressing as planned for completion on June 1st. The expansion aims to enhance the college’s training facilities and accommodate the growing demand for dental care in the community. The clinic is expected to be fully operational by June 30th, when it will host both the college’s dental training programs and the Community Dental Clinic.
Dr. Paul Carlsen, President of Lakeshore College, expressed his gratitude for the ongoing partnership with Lakeshore Community Health Care, which enables students to gain valuable hands-on experience in a real-world setting. He emphasized that the expansion of the clinic, combined with the introduction of a new dental hygiene program, addresses the increasing demand for dental services and training in the area.
The partnership also aims to address the current shortage of dental hygienists in Wisconsin. Kristin Stearns, CEO of Lakeshore Community Health Care, highlighted the importance of adding an associate degree in dental hygiene to help fill this gap and provide future dental professionals with essential skills and qualifications.
In May 2024, Lakeshore College secured $1.2 million in funding, which will support both the clinic’s expansion and the development of an accredited dental hygiene program. President Carlsen noted that the accreditation process for the program will take approximately 18 months, with the anticipated program launch scheduled for Fall 2026.
The expansion of the dental clinic and the launch of the dental hygiene program are crucial steps toward meeting the growing needs of the local community and strengthening dental care training in Wisconsin.
