SEOUL, South Korea – Osstem Implant has formalized a partnership with Faculdade São Leopoldo Mandic to strengthen dental education in Brazil, a country with a booming dental market and a workforce of approximately 420,000 dentists. The agreement aims to elevate specialist training in dentistry through advanced clinical education and product-based learning initiatives.
The agreement, signed on November 26 at Osstem’s Central Research Institute in Seoul, involves Kyoo-Ok Choi, chairman of Osstem Implant, and José Luiz Junqueira Filho, director of new projects and innovation at São Leopoldo Mandic. Under this collaboration, Osstem will support the university by supplying clinical education resources, hands-on training equipment, and developing an exclusive Osstem Implant specialist programme. The private institution, located in Campinas, Brazil, is recognized for its undergraduate and postgraduate programmes in dentistry and other medical fields.
Prior to the signing, the Brazilian delegation visited Osstem’s production facility in Busan, South Korea, to observe its automated implant manufacturing system. They later explored Osstem’s product showroom at the company’s headquarters in Seoul.
Won-Ki Lee, Osstem Brazil’s country manager, highlighted the significance of this partnership, saying: “Starting with Faculdade São Leopoldo Mandic, we plan to develop implant-focused clinical education initiatives with leading public universities such as the University of São Paulo and São Paulo State University. Additionally, we aim to introduce our dental imaging technology to major university hospitals across Brazil.”
Building a Strong Presence in Brazil’s Growing Dental Market
Osstem Implant, a global leader in clinical education, has trained over 120,000 dentists worldwide since 2000. Its growing presence in Brazil is marked by initiatives such as the Osstem Meeting São Paulo, an annual academic symposium attended by dental professionals from across the country. The company also participates in Brazil’s largest dental exhibition, the Congresso Internacional de Odontologia de São Paulo, hosting product showcases and consultations.
In a strategic move, Osstem acquired Implacil De Bortoli—Brazil’s third-largest dental implant provider—in May 2023. This acquisition bolsters its market presence and aligns with the company’s growth strategy. Osstem and Implacil will jointly exhibit at the upcoming International Dental Show in Cologne, Germany.
Brazil remains a pivotal market for dental advancements, supported by favorable growth indicators. According to the Korea Health Industry Development Institute, factors such as population growth, extended life expectancy, increased healthcare spending, and the expansion of medical insurance drive Brazil’s thriving medical device sector—the largest in Latin America.
The Conselho Federal de Odontologia reports that Brazil currently houses 424,294 dentists and more than 400 institutions offering dental education. Osstem projects the Brazilian dental implant market, valued at €315 million in 2023, to grow annually by 10% through 2030, reflecting robust demand and market opportunities.
This partnership marks a strategic step for Osstem Implant in fostering innovation, education, and product adoption within Brazil’s rapidly expanding dental industry.
