KATHUA, Nov 14: The Department of Dentistry at Government Medical College (GMC) Kathua recently organized a two-day Continuing Dental Education (CDE) event titled “Dentcom-2024: Elevating Dentistry – Excellence, Expertise, and Evolution.” The conference, led by Dr. Surinder Kumar Atri, Principal of GMC Kathua, showcased the latest developments in dental care and aimed to enhance professional knowledge and skills.
Under the guidance of Dr. Atri and a dedicated team of faculty members, including Dr. Nikhel Dev Wazir (Professor of Dentistry), Dr. Heena Sadiq (Assistant Professor), Dr. Shahid Farooq (Assistant Professor), along with Dental Surgeons Dr. Arun Bhagat, Dr. Ankush Jasrotia, Dr. Shruti, and Senior Resident Dr. Ankit Mahajan, the event offered a platform for discussion and learning in the field of modern dentistry.
The event featured a range of scientific sessions and interactive workshops designed to sharpen dental professionals’ expertise in emerging areas. Topics covered included bio ceramics, bioactive materials, advanced 3D obturation techniques, the use of soft tissue lasers, and the practice of gingival curettage. Leading experts in the field delivered insightful lectures on a variety of cutting-edge topics.
Prof. Shakeel, Head of the Department of Craniomaxillofacial Surgery at SKIMS Bemina, shared valuable insights on cranio-maxillofacial surgery. Other notable speakers included Dr. Yash Raj Bahadur, who discussed chairside crown fabrication, Dr. Paras Kotwal, who examined implant loading protocols, and Dr. Rahul Krishan Kotwal, who explored the role of aligners in contemporary dental practices. Additionally, Dr. Heena Sadiq provided expert advice on soft tissue laser techniques.
The conference also covered a range of specialized topics, with Dr. Shahid Farooq presenting on All-on-4 implants, Dr. Ankush Jasrotia discussing magnification techniques in 3D obturation and instrument retrieval, and Dr. Ankit Mahajan offering a detailed exploration of curettage in dental procedures.
The second day of the conference saw the presence of several dignitaries, including Dr. Bharat Bhushan (MLA Kathua), Chand Kishore (Additional Secretary, Health and Medical Education Department, J&K), Dr. Sanjay Sharma (Deputy Director, Dentistry, Directorate of Health Services, Jammu), Dr. Bhupinder Singh (President, Jammu and Kashmir State Dental Council), and Dr. Satish Sharma (Head of Department, Dentistry, GMC Rajouri). The event was formally inaugurated with a ceremonial lamp lighting by the dignitaries alongside the Principal and Heads of Departments at GMC Kathua.

These innovations have dramatically reduced healing times and enabled the possibility of immediate or early implant loading for a broader range of patients.
