To truly understand the remarkable journey of Dr. Lauren Lockhart and Dr. Lindsey Salone, known as the “Twintists,” one must first explore their roots. The sisters hail from Charlotte, where they were raised by a physician and a nurse and have a sibling who works as a dental hygienist.
Dr. Salone, a general cosmetic dentist, emphasizes the impact of positive role models on their careers, stating, “Being in healthcare was always ingrained in us. We had great exposure to the healthcare field from an early age.”
Dr. Lockhart, an orthodontist, highlights the individuality that exists even among twins, asserting, “I just want everyone to know that twins are not the same person.”
“That’s right. We still have our own identities,” Salone agrees.
Their ability to work effectively as a team is most evident at their practice, Dual Image Dentistry and Orthodontics, which operates across three locations in Charlotte. Together, the Twintists have amassed over 130,000 followers on social media. However, they take greater pride in serving as role models for aspiring healthcare professionals.
Lockhart passionately states, “I always like to say, ‘If you can see it, you can be it.’ The issue for many young people is that they aren’t seeing it. They may not realize it’s possible if they haven’t seen anyone else do it. It doesn’t necessarily have to come from their family; perhaps they’ve never had the opportunity to visit a Black doctor or dentist. They might not know that it’s possible for a Black person to succeed in these fields.”
Through their work and visibility, the Twintists are committed to inspiring the next generation of dental and orthodontic professionals.
