Del Mar College’s Dental Hygiene Program is set to offer complimentary clinical services throughout the fall semester. This initiative aims to serve the Coastal Bend community while simultaneously equipping dental hygiene students with essential hands-on training.
The Dental Hygiene Clinic will deliver a comprehensive array of services, including medical history reviews, blood pressure screenings, intra-oral examinations, preliminary dental assessments, periodontal evaluations, dental hygiene education, oral cancer screenings, radiographs (x-rays), fluoride treatments, selective polishing, conservative periodontal therapy, and dental sealants.
Eva Sepulveda, Director of the DMC Dental Programs, emphasized the dual benefit of the clinic: “The Dental Hygiene Clinic not only supports residents in the Coastal Bend who need our services but also provides our students with practical experience necessary for their professional careers. This free community service allows our students to gain the crucial hands-on training they need while fulfilling specific dental care needs of our patients.”
Services will be available starting September 9 and will continue through December. Prospective patients are encouraged to sign up early, as receiving services from students requires a longer commitment.
The clinic offers valuable real-world experience for Dental Hygiene students, who perform procedures under the supervision of program faculty. Given the nature of the treatments, multiple visits are often required.
Patient selection is aligned with the educational and clinical needs of the students. Acceptance is determined following a preliminary “qualifying appointment” conducted by DMC faculty.
