Gillian Harrison, a Mize High School alumna currently studying at the University of Mississippi Medical Center, recently dedicated her time to teaching Taylorsville children about dental health. Harrison, who actively volunteers to promote oral hygiene, addressed the students on the significance of proper brushing, flossing, and maintaining a nutritious diet.
As part of her engaging session, Harrison read aloud from Dr. Seuss’s “The Tooth Book,” captivating the young audience with its fun approach to dental care. Following the story, she led an interactive activity where students classified various foods as either beneficial or detrimental to their dental health.
Harrison emphasized the importance of daily dental routines, stating, “Brushing and flossing at least once a day are crucial. Additionally, consuming healthy foods plays a significant role in dental care.”
She outlined five key practices for maintaining optimal oral hygiene: brushing twice a day, visiting the dentist biannually, eating nutritious foods, flossing daily, and appreciating one’s smile.
At the end of her presentation, Harrison provided each student with a new toothbrush as a practical takeaway.
This dental health session was part of “Flashlight Friday,” a program designed to illuminate new learning experiences and opportunities for the students.
