Align Technology, Inc. has partnered with Costco to launch a promotional program offering U.S. Costco members a $400 discount on Invisalign® treatments when purchased through Costco.com.
For $99.99, members can acquire an Invisalign treatment e-card, along with the Invisalign Essentials Bundle+, a collection of dental care products valued at $105. This initiative aims to make Invisalign’s clear aligner treatment, known for its comfort and efficacy, more accessible to a wider audience.
John Morici, Align’s executive vice president and CFO, highlighted the significance of the collaboration, emphasizing its potential to link Costco members with dental professionals trained in Invisalign treatment.
“We are thrilled to introduce this pilot program, connecting Costco members and their families with Invisalign-trained dental and orthodontic practices,” said Morici. “The Invisalign treatment e-card program is a strategic priority for Align, as we aim to provide patients of all ages with access to better smiles through our innovative, doctor-directed Invisalign treatment.”
In related news, Costco is planning to raise its annual membership fees in the U.S. and Canada by approximately 8%, the first increase since 2017. Effective September 1, the Gold Star and business membership fees will rise from $60 to $65, while Executive memberships will increase from $120 to $130. This change will impact about 52 million memberships, with more than half being Executive memberships. Executive members, who enjoy additional perks and a higher reward cap on purchases, will see their benefits maintained despite the fee hike.
This fee adjustment continues Costco’s tradition of raising rates approximately every five and a half years, though this increase was delayed due to inflation concerns. Despite the rise, Costco’s financial performance remains strong, with a recent report showing a 6.3% increase in U.S. comparable sales, excluding gasoline. Membership fees are a critical revenue stream for Costco, contributing $4.7 billion in 2023. However, some critics express concerns that the fee increase could challenge Costco’s competitive edge against lower-cost retailers and non-membership stores.
