Dr. Suraj Kukadia, widely recognized as Dr. Sooj on social media, has addressed a common query from his TikTok followers about the timing of brushing teeth in the morning. The National Health Service (NHS) has issued a warning about the potential risks of brushing teeth after breakfast.
Dr. Kukadia emphasized the importance of brushing teeth as soon as one wakes up. He noted that during sleep, bacteria accumulate in the mouth. Brushing first thing helps eliminate these bacteria, reducing the risk of plaque and cavities. Additionally, applying toothpaste early in the morning creates a protective fluoride layer on the teeth, which shields the enamel.
Dr. Kukadia explained, “In the morning, your mouth is filled with bacteria from overnight. Brushing before breakfast helps remove these bacteria, preventing plaque buildup. It also fortifies your teeth with fluoride, which protects enamel from acidic damage. The pH level in your mouth drops after eating or drinking, making it more acidic and increasing the risk of enamel erosion. Thus, brushing before breakfast is crucial to mitigate this risk.”
