22-year-old Caitlyn Weld was stunned to discover she received veneers instead of a routine root canal during a recent dental visit. After moving to Florida, Weld went to a new dentist for a cavity but was shocked when her front teeth were prepared for veneers instead.
In a viral TikTok video, Weld shared her surprise at having her teeth shaved down and fitted with veneers. “I didn’t have a mirror and didn’t realize what was happening until it was too late,” she said. Language barriers with the dental staff left her confused about the procedure.
Despite her initial shock, Weld complied with the dentist’s explanation that the veneers were necessary due to the severity of her cavity and common preferences for uniform teeth color. The process involved painful temporary veneers and a difficult adjustment to the permanent ones.
Though the experience was painful and unsettling, Weld has opted to keep the dentist’s identity private, viewing the ordeal as a learning experience. Veneers, popular for their cosmetic appeal, can cost up to $4,000 per tooth.
