James Littleover, 37, from Lincoln, has secured a £23,000 compensation settlement following a protracted legal battle against two former dentists who allegedly failed to address significant dental decay over several years.
Littleover, a patient at Guildhall Dental Care in Lincoln since 2006, endured chronic infections, severe pain, and eventual tooth loss due to alleged mismanagement by Dr. Arej Elmangoush and Dr. Georgios Emmanouildis. His ordeal led to difficulties with eating, forcing him to rely on only one side of his mouth and endure constant discomfort.
The case, managed by the Dental Law Partnership since 2021, involved a thorough review of Littleover’s dental records. The findings indicated that numerous root canal treatments, fillings, and future dental interventions could have been prevented with timely and adequate care.
The compensation was awarded in December 2023 following an out-of-court settlement. The dentists involved did not admit to liability. Guildhall Dental Care declined to comment, stating that the dentists are no longer affiliated with the practice.
Littleover recounted his experience, stating, “Between 2016 and 2019, Dr. Elmangoush diagnosed decay in several of my teeth and performed multiple fillings. However, in 2018, one of my teeth was extracted despite my decay risk being noted as low. In 2019, after a filling failed, it was evident that previous treatment had not been completed properly.”
He continued, “In January 2021, Dr. Emmanouilidis diagnosed a high decay risk and treated cavities across most of my teeth. Despite these efforts, I later faced severe pain and infections that led to additional emergency treatments at another practice. The persistent issues caused by substandard care left me in near-constant pain and reliant on painkillers.”
Tim Armitage from the Dental Law Partnership commented, “The distress and suffering experienced by Mr. Littleover were entirely avoidable. Proper treatment from the outset could have prevented his prolonged pain and subsequent dental problems.”
The case highlights the critical importance of timely and effective dental care, emphasizing the severe consequences of professional negligence.
