The SmileBay Signature Advanced Implant Center has officially opened at Weld Quay in Penang, promising to deliver world-class holistic and advanced dental care.
Dr. Yong Peng San, the founder of SmileBay Dental Group, explained that Weld Quay was chosen for its historical significance and alignment with the group’s vision of modern dentistry.
“Weld Quay was a bustling port in the late 19th century, representing connection and progress. It served as a gateway to the world, making it the perfect symbol for our new center dedicated to providing advanced, world-class dental care,” Dr. Yong stated.
As the group’s managing director and chief clinician, Dr. Yong highlighted the centre’s strategic location near Port Swettenham International Cruise Terminal, facilitating convenient emergency care for cruise ship passengers.
“Our advanced technologies allow us to complete single-visit root canal treatments and crowning within just three to four hours,” he noted.
Dr. Yong also emphasized SmileBay’s growing reputation as a premier destination for dental tourism, with patients from Indonesia, Australia, the United Kingdom, the United States, and various European countries. The new clinic is the eighth SmileBay branch.
A key feature of the new center is the full-mouth implant surgery, known as AOX implant surgery. “We use four to six implants to support a full arch of replacement teeth, significantly reducing surgery time. The replacement teeth are crafted as a single, customized bridge, benefiting those with terminally ill teeth or complete dentures looking to improve their dental health and quality of life,” Dr. Yong elaborated.
The center also offers a range of treatments including crowns and bridges, fillings, periodontal treatments, and bone and soft tissue grafting.
SmileBay Signature boasts international partnerships with renowned centers such as T32 Dental Group in Singapore and the Dental Implant and Maxillofacial Center in Hong Kong.
“These collaborations facilitate knowledge exchange and technological advancements, ensuring we remain at the forefront of dental innovations,” Dr. Yong explained.
In addition to regular training, SmileBay staff receive specialized upskilling in root canal treatment, full mouth rehabilitation, implant surgery, smile makeovers, laser dentistry, and same-day crown technology.
“We have invested in the latest dental technologies, including 3D printing for dental prosthetics, digital intra-oral scanners, and digital X-rays,” Dr. Yong added.
He credited SmileBay’s highly-skilled staff as a key factor in the group’s success and expressed the group’s commitment to community outreach through additional clinics.
The new SmileBay center was inaugurated by Penang’s social development, welfare, and non-Islamic religious affairs committee chairman Lim Siew Khim. Other notable attendees included Penang youth, sports and health committee chairman Daniel Gooi, T32 Dental Group and Dontia Alliance founder and CEO Dr. Wong Keng Mun, and Dental Implant and Maxillofacial Center founder and managing director Dr. James Chow.
In her address, Lim praised SmileBay for its state-of-the-art facility, reflecting the group’s commitment to dental excellence. Lim and Gooi also witnessed a memorandum of understanding (MOU) signing between Dr. Yong and Dr. Wong, followed by a lion dance performance celebrating the center’s opening.
