When preparing for college, students meticulously budget for tuition, housing, and meals. However, many overlook a significant expense that can reach up to $2,500: the extraction of wisdom teeth.
Typically emerging between the ages of 17 and 25, wisdom teeth often require removal during a period when students are already burdened with substantial financial commitments. Approximately 90% of young adults need this procedure due to the potential for wisdom teeth to grow at awkward angles, potentially causing misalignment of other teeth.
To alleviate this financial strain, Park Cities Oral & Maxillofacial Associates is offering their annual Wisdom for Wisdom program. This initiative, now in its fifth year, will provide a select number of students in the Dallas-Fort Worth (DFW) area with a complimentary extraction procedure. The program was founded by Dr. William R. Phillips, the clinic’s owner.
“I realized that the cost of wisdom teeth extraction was an unforeseen burden for many families and students,” said Dr. Phillips. “This program ensures that students, particularly those facing financial difficulties, receive necessary dental care.”
Interested students can apply by watching an educational video about wisdom teeth, completing a brief quiz to demonstrate their understanding, and answering one short answer question. Applications must be submitted by June 30th. The number of winners will depend on the level of interest in the program.
