7 steps to see the whole process of dental implants
The first step of oral examination Time: 1 day, the necessary oral examination, auxiliary radiographic examination and systemic biochemical index examination are carried out. This is mainly to understand whether there is alveolar bone resorption and absorption in the edentulous area of the patient, remaining bone mass and bone density, whether there is chronic inflammation, etc., and to exclude systemic contraindications. Then, according to the patient’s missing teeth, bone condition, occlusal relationship and other related indicators of implant restoration, the doctor gives a comprehensive implant surgery and post-repair plan.
Step 2 Implantation operation Time: 10 days to remove sutures, and it needs to be completed under strict sterilization conditions. After anesthesia, the mucoperiosteum of the edentulous area was incised, the alveolar bone was exposed, holes were prepared step by step on the alveolar bone of the corresponding part of the missing teeth, and implants were placed. If bone grafting is required, bone grafting can be performed at the same time, the incision is tightly sutured, and the sutures are removed in about 10 days.
The third step is to wait for the period of osseointegration. Time: 3 to 6 months. After the implantation operation, review every 1 to 2 months, and observe whether the osseointegration is normal through radiographs. The length of osseointegration varies from person to person, implant system, and bone condition. Generally, it is 3 to 6 months. A few patients with poor bone condition need to wait for more than half a year.
Step 4: Install the healing abutment Time: 2~3 weeks. The abutment is an auxiliary device for the implant in dental restoration. After the implant is surgically placed, the abutment will also be permanently attached to the implant through surgery. This step is to extend the abutment to the outside of the gum to form a through-gum part for fixing dentures and other orthodontic devices (restorations). Then, wait for the soft tissue to form. This process takes 2-3 weeks.
Step 5 Take the model Time: 2 weeks, take the model to make the implant denture. After the gingival tissue around the implant has healed for 6 to 8 weeks, the healing abutment is removed, the transfer rod is installed, the impression is taken, and the upper crown is made.
Step 6 Time to wear an implant crown: Half-day, fixed implant denture crowns are mainly of two types: all-ceramic and porcelain. According to the product brand and its biological and mechanical properties, there are many types of different price points available to consumers. choose.
Step 7 Late follow-up Time: once every six months, go to the hospital for regular check-ups 2 to 3 times a year.
