A South London woman, Farzana Master, aged 47, has received a £10,000 settlement from Vara Dental Practice in Manor Park after a series of unsuccessful dental procedures left her with a compromised smile. The dental treatments were conducted between 2005 and 2018 by Dr. Amit Rana and Dr. Jagjivan L Vara.
Ms. Master underwent two root canal treatments, crowns, and multiple fillings during this period. However, according to the Dental Law Partnership, errors in root canal and crown treatments, specifically at the upper left and lower right corners of Ms. Master’s mouth, resulted in excruciating pain, infection, and eventual bone loss. The severity of the issues indicates that she will eventually lose these teeth.
In an interview, Ms. Master described the intense throbbing pain she experienced, spreading to her head. Seeking emergency treatment around New Year’s 2020, she faced challenges finding an available dentist due to the holiday season. Eventually, she received antibiotics to address the infection.
Ms. Master sought opinions from multiple dental practices and discovered the extent of the damage. One dentist recommended extraction, a prospect she hesitated to accept due to the visibility of the affected tooth when smiling. Another consultation revealed the difficulty in saving the tooth.
The impact on Ms. Master’s confidence was substantial, as she emphasized the significance of her smile. Despite temporarily saving the affected tooth, she will eventually undergo extraction and implant procedures for both teeth that had root canal treatments. Undetected decay further complicated her dental issues.
Upon contacting the Dental Law Practice in 2021, Ms. Master’s solicitors discovered discrepancies in her treatment at Vara Dental Practice, including failed root canal treatments, substandard crowns, and a delay in diagnosing decay. The case concluded with a successful out-of-court settlement in April 2023, with Ms. Master being awarded £10,000.
Dr. Vara responded to the claims, stating disagreement with the facts presented by the Dental Law Partnership. However, due to professional obligations, he refrained from disclosing specific details about Ms. Master’s treatment and management.
