A pair of lost dentures, discovered on the window sill of the Spanish eatery Las Chicas in Faringdon, Oxfordshire, have taken on a new role as an unconventional art exhibit. This peculiar journey began two weeks ago when a passer-by stumbled upon the forgotten false teeth.
Mariella Montenegro, the restaurant’s owner, shared that she initially wrapped the dentures in toilet paper, anticipating their owner’s return. However, as no one stepped forward to claim them, she decided to transform them into a unique decorative piece. Placed inside a jewelry box, the dentures now serve as an intriguing and unexpected ornament.
The interest surrounding the dentures was sparked by a post on Facebook, where people started to take notice. In response, Ms. Montenegro humorously offered a free shot to anyone brave enough to test the dentures’ fit.
Ms. Montenegro highlighted the distinctive character of Faringdon, referencing the blending of English and Spanish eccentricities. She amusingly mentioned how Salvador Dali, the surrealist Spanish artist, once wandered the town wearing a deep-sea diving suit.
As the dentures remain unclaimed, they have become a focal point within the restaurant. Despite initial concerns about hygiene, Ms. Montenegro reassured that the dentures are safely enclosed in a box, adding a touch of quirky charm to the establishment.
Reflecting on this unusual turn of events, Ms. Montenegro said, “My staff were worried it’d be unhygienic, but it’s in a box and it’s quite quirky and fun.” The lost dentures have now become an unexpected conversation piece, embodying the offbeat spirit of Faringdon.
