A Taipei woman surnamed Zhou criticized that she saw a promotional advertisement for whitening teeth veneers on Instagram a few days ago. After the operation in early December last year, her entire mouth of teeth continued to ache, a corner of her front tooth was missing, and the excessively worn tooth nerve was exposed. She also found out that the man surnamed Liao who claimed to be a dental technician did not even have a license. She spent 370,000 yuan on treatment before her condition improved. The Taipei City Health Bureau said that if Liao was found to have performed medical acts, he could be sentenced to 6 months to 5 years in prison under the criminal law, but whether it violated the law has yet to be determined.
The man in a blue jacket was performing a full-mouth dental scan. Miss Zhou, who was lying on the treatment chair, went to get whitening teeth veneers a few days ago. Unexpectedly, she continued to feel pain after the operation. She also found out that the man surnamed Liao who assisted in the operation and claimed to be a dental technician did not even have a license.
The victim, Ms. Zhou: “Since you said you have a license, why can’t you show it to me? And you keep telling me that you have nothing to do with this matter.”
Not only is a corner of the front tooth missing, but it also looks like a sawtooth, and the nerves are exposed due to excessive wear. Ms. Zhou said that she saw an aesthetics advertisement on Instagram for ceramic whitening veneers. On December 4, she went to a dentist in Taipei for the procedure. The cost of 130,000 yuan was NT$130,000 for the upper and lower rows of 13 teeth. The man surnamed Liao who was in charge of the contact claimed to be a dental technician. He assisted with the dental floss blowing test, the bite test, and the intraoral scan. Finally, a dentist surnamed Ke anesthetized the teeth and ground the temporary veneers. Unexpectedly, the whole mouth of teeth hurt and had a headache, and she could only take painkillers three times a day.
The victim, Ms. Zhou: “I couldn’t even bite properly, so I couldn’t eat properly, and I could only eat liquids for a few days. I lost 3 kilograms in less than a month.”
Ms. Zhou was really furious, and she quickly consulted the man surnamed Liao, and she was even more inconsistent about the dental technician.
The victim vs. the dental technician surnamed Liao: “So you are also a dental technician? Yes, and we have our own dental team.”
However, another internet celebrity, Ms. Huang, also had 8 rows of veneers on her teeth at the end of October last year, and she also experienced repeated pain and veneer falling off within a month.
Another victim, Ms. Huang: “I have been having my teeth worked on repeatedly this month, and they kept telling me that they would fix it for me next time, but it didn’t work for many times.”
The accused man surnamed Zhou: “I was the consultant and dental supervisor, and I played a part in the communication between her and the doctor.”
The Taipei City Health Bureau has already gone to the site for inspection, but did not see the man surnamed Liao. After investigation, it was found that the man surnamed Liao did not have the qualifications of a dental technician. If he really performed medical acts, it would probably be classified as secret medical acts, involving criminal law, and could be sentenced to 6 months to 5 years in prison. However, whether it is illegal or not still needs to be determined by the Health Bureau.
